This is another resource list that will need to be returned to. Many of the best suppliers are overseas. Recent years have made purchasing materials more complicated and expensive. These are places I have been able to obtain materials, but I order somewhat infrequently and shop around often so please do not take this as an endorsement necessarily. If anything has changed, please let me know so that I can edit this list.
NorthernWestStuff2 – https://www.etsy.com/shop/NorthernWestStuff2?ref=yr_purchases
Rabbit skin glue (currently selling thinner particles), raw pigment materials, etc. in small quantities. If you are in Washington State, supplies get to you very fast (in my experience). Ownership changed recently but my last order was the same as previously.
L.A. Gold Leaf – https://www.lagoldleafus.com/about-us/
All supplies for gilding. Noting that there are a lot of counterfeiters claiming to be L.A. Gold Leaf on Amazon and other sites. They only sell through their website. West Coast seller.
Jackson’s Art – https://www.jacksonsart.com/en-us/
British company with a U.S. site, but they ship quickly and have very reasonable prices on gilding supplies when they have them. (Things do go in and out of stock.) Cheapest place I have found for gilding cushions. They also generally are quite reasonable for leaf.
A.S. Handover – https://www.handover.co.uk/?swcfpc=1
I just ordered from them for the first time today (July 2026). They have a very inexpensive silver leaf that I ordered from Jackson’s Art previously, but it is less expensive here.
Sinopia Pigments – https://www.sinopia.com/water-gilding-grounds-gesso-and-bole-clays
Good source for bole and traditional gessos.
L. Cornelissen & Son – https://www.cornelissen.com/
U.K. supplier that seems to have just about everything you could want. Noting that they do have starter packs available which is a good way to get just a few leaves to learn with. (You really can stretch gold leaf a long way if you try.) They also provide different types of leaf from many different countries which are labeled as such.
John Neal Books – https://www.johnnealbooks.com/prod_detail_list/illum/?page=2
Resource for calligraphy and illumination supplies. Can purchase miniatum ink in smaller amounts. May not be accurate at time of reading, but code SCASCRIBE provides small discount.
Apothecary’s Garden – https://apothecarysgarden.com
Canadian seller. A good source for hard to find resins, gums, etc. I want to note that you can often purchase gums for gilding at incense supplies. If you have a small shop in your town, that might be a good place to look.
Robbins’ Honey Farm – https://www.facebook.com/p/Robbins-Honey-Farm-100057107034759/
Local honey seller in Lakewood, WA located at 7910 148th St SW, Lakewood, WA 98439. Can purchase raw wax, honey, etc. at very reasonable prices and several varieties. (Can also buy in large quantities.) Don’t have a strong online presence—better to call if you have questions.
Barnabas Blattgold – https://barnabasgold.com/?srsltid=AfmBOorIZ7BraURbY3CK_OBK3iFBzJYw2R7dyqzcMY5c_HZtLcezsrXf
Gold/metal leaf supplier. Can purchase their products on Amazon with Prime.
Gold Leaf Supplies- https://www.goldleafsupplies.co.uk
British seller. A good place to purchase premade mordants and other gilding supplies such as Improved Gold Body. They often have things in stock that I have difficulty finding elsewhere.
Gilded Planet – https://gildedplanet.com
Gilding supplies for all types of gilding. Also have links to several classes and provide kits. Carry several varieties of gold, including Manetti (Italian) and Crocodile (German).
